COVID-19 Antibody Testing

CBC Provides Free COVID-19 Antibody Testing for All Donors

Do you wonder if you've had COVID-19? With many people asymptomatic, no one knows for sure without an antibody blood test. Community Blood Center is now testing all blood donations for COVID-19 antibodies.

CBC is showing appreciation to blood donors by providing COVID-19 antibody testing at no cost through Jan. 31, 2021.  The testing is public service because it helps understand the spread of the virus among the population.

It is not a test to determine if someone has an active case of COVID-19. The test is an indicator of someone's exposure to coronavirus but is not to be considered as proof of immunity.

COVID-19 antibody testing helps identify those who are eligible to donate COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma (CCP) for the treatment of critically ill COVID-19 patients.

"Identifying donors with the antibodies will help us build our supply of convalescent plasma and give area hospitals the ability to treat COVID-19 patients for many months to come," said CBC Medical Director Dr. James Alexander.

Samples of antibody tests of the population can help public health officials fight COVID-19 by calculating the percentage of the population that has already been infected.

CBC is testing all blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies. CBC is providing an initial test, followed up by a supplemental test for those who qualify, to help identify donors who could help COVID-19 patients by becoming future convalescent plasma donors. Learn more about CCP.
